Giveaway Comments/Rafflecopter

Hi, everyone!

I just wanted to pop in and give a quick update.  Our latest giveaway with Clairvoyant Beauty has ended, as of last night at 8pm EST.

I'll be picking a winner soon, but Blogger seems to have decided our comments don't need to be numbered anymore.  I'm playing around with the coding to try to get it back so I can use Random.org and pick winners our usual way, but so far, no luck.  Any ideas?

If I can't get it working, I will just print the comments, and do things the old fashioned way, cut them out, put them in a bowl, mix 'em up, and pull three winners that way.  If that's the case, I think I will switch to using Rafflecopter for future giveaways.  How do you all feel about Rafflecopter?

Sooooo, yeah, just wanted to give you all an update and let you know I'm working on this and will have winners picked as soon as possible!

Have a great day!

Clairvoyant Beauty - Review and Giveaway!

Right before the holidays this year, I was introduced to a company by the name of Clairvoyant Beauty.  I've always loved trying new beauty products, and I've been especially interested in new fragrances lately, so I was more than happy, and even a bit excited to be able to work on a review for their products.  With the stress of the holidays showing in my skin, the opportunity could not have come at a better time.

Clairvoyant Beauty believes that every woman has a natural, inborn glamour that shines from self-confidence.  They believe that glamour arises from kindness, and the self-acceptance that puts others at ease.  What a great philosophy, and so true!  Self confidence does so much for the way the world sees a person.

Inspired by creator, Lexie Masterson's grandmother who encouraged and helped her granddaughter to create natural, soothing skin care products out of herbs, flowers, fruits, and vegetables, Clairvoyant Beauty wants to celebrate natural beauty.  Because of that, they have put priority in finding natural and organic ingredients from the purest and most powerful plants to enhance your natural beauty.  Calming Lavender, skin-softening Rose, astringent Hibiscus Flower, healing Cucumber and Aloe Vera...why shouldn't we harvest the power or nature in our beauty care routines?  Not only does it work to keep our skin balanced and in harmony, but it's a joy to the senses to use these natural botanical in our skin care.  Clairvoyant Beauty prides itself in creating products that are 100% natural, organic, paraben-free, and that contain no chemical preservatives and no synthetic fragrances.  How refreshing!

Clairvoyant Beauty has made it their mission to be able to provide for all of your skin care and fragrance needs.  They have created cleansers, facial scrubs, toners, serums, moisturizers, eye creams, delightful fragrances...  and to know that they are natural products, is such a comfort!  I've been browsing through their collection, and I must say, my skin is going through a rough patch recently.  With the general holiday busy-ness finally behind me, I'm still dealing with dry skin from the winter weather, and some hormonal breakouts.  While I received a lovely selection of products for review (which I'll tell you all about in just a bit), I'd love to try out the Exfoliating AHA Scrub, the Lavender and Sea Minerals Toner and the Skin Rejuvenating AHA Cream.  They just sound so nourishing and refreshing!  I love that on their website, you can click on common skin issues and find just the right products for you all together in one section.  You won't be left out, they cater to all skin types.  I like that several products do double duty as well, great for skin issues like mine which tend to be dryness and enlarged pores/blackheads, and resulting redness from all of these issues.

The lovely selection I received consisted of the signature Fragrance, Simply Rosewater Toner, Rosewater Eye Cream, and the Simply Roses Cream.

I was a bit worried at first, as I know I've said here before...I'm just not a fan of the scent of roses.  A little is fine, but it can quickly become overpowering.  I did not at all have an issue with the scent of these products being overwhelming.  Much to my relief!  I always want to focus on the positive in products so I was worried that the fragrance might be overwhelmingly rosy, to me.  Not at all.

One of the first things I noticed, upon receiving the package from Clairvoyant Beauty, was that their packaging is gorgeous.  It's so elegant, with a slightly vintage feel.  That really captures beauty, to me.  Even the inside of the boxes are pretty!  These are products that I *want* sitting out on my vanity because they're so beautiful.  I love when companies not only take care to make excellent products, but take great care in the appeal to the eyes as well.  I want to get a little mirrored tray for my bathroom vanity just to display beautiful bottles like these.  Not to mention, that in keeping with the natural theme, the packaging is recyclable, and containers are biodegradable.  Packing is even Forest Stewardsip Council certified and made from Rainforest Alliance Certified paper.  Love it!

I have to say, of all of the products, my favorite is the Simply Rosewater Toner, so I'll talk about that first.  I've used a similar toner in the past, and I really think that roses are just amazing for the skin.  According to the information on the package, Rosa Damascena/Bulgarian Rose has been used for centuries to promote health and beauty.  Roses have skin softening qualities, that are especially amazing for mature and dry skin.  The light scent has also been known for it's uplifting and aphrodisiac properties.  Interesting!  And so true!  This toner is very gentle on my face, and leaves me feeling hydrated, soft, and refreshed.  You wouldn't think that a toner would work as a toner, and yet still leave skin without irritation and feeling moisturized.  I *love* it!  Using a toner is such an important, and often overlooked part of skincare routines.  I know I personally don't use them very often simply because my skin ends up dry, irritated, and angry with me when I do.  That's not the case at all when I use a Rosewater Toner, and this one is excellent.  I use mine at night...you're supposed to use a cotton ball/pad but I just use a clean wash cloth, and wipe it over the face and neck. It really softens the skin, exfoliates, and helps to make sure that all traces of makeup are gone before I go to sleep...and the light scent is really nice as well.

The Simply Roses Cream is just lovely.  Please ignore the cream's appearance in my photo, this was taken right after I received these items and the cream just looks so much nicer now after use and being swirled around a bit by my fingers.  This cream just screams luxury.  It's so thick and well, creamy!  It applies smooth, and light.  It doesn't feel greasy or heavy as it moisturizes, it just leaves skin soft and comfortable.  You can, and are directed to, use this cream on the face and neck.  As someone who's dealt with acne problems for as long as I can remember, it's just a little thick for me to use on my face and scares me a bit, so I use this wherever I have "tougher" dry skin, like elbows, heels, and knees.  It feels amazing worked into the legs as well.  It contains Bulgarian Rose to soften skin and give off that lovely soft, rose scent.  There is also jojoba and coconut oil for gentle moisturization, glycerin to attract moisture to the skin, and vitamin E to protect skin.

I had a bit of an issue with the Gentle and Healing Rosewater Eye Cream.  It seems delivery was a bit too rough (to be fair, I received this just a few days before Christmas...I think at that point, most deliveries are a bit too rough on products as the delivery personnel are just so overloaded).  The product seems to be bumped around a bit too much and leaked (you can see the reside on the little pot in the photo), leaving just a small amount in the container.  I can tell by the small amount that it smells lovely, but I wasn't really able to use it.  Too bad!  I've never used an Eye Cream before, and while I don't really have any aging issues with the skin around my eyes yet, it would be interesting to see if there were any benefits for me.

Last, but certainly not least, I received a bottle of Clairvoyant Beauty's new signature fragrance.  These are handcrafted in small bathes, using only the finest wild crafted Natural Essences possible.  It's completely natural, and based with organic corn alcohol.  I received a .33 ounce bottle, which is just the right size for my travel or to keep in your purse. I keep mine on my vanity.  This scent is seriously intoxicating.  I find myself having trouble describing it, but it's a scent that keeps bringing me back for more.  Clairvoyant Beauty states that this fragrance is infused with a little mystery!  I'd have to agree with that.  For a more in depth description of the fragrance notes, I'll let Clairvoyant Beauty take it from here:

Crisp floral-green top notes of bergamot and lime leads you into an exploration. Bulgarian rose middle notes blend with jasmine and ylang ylang to relax the senses and enhance your own natural harmony and beauty. Warm, lush, inviting base notes of tobacco, fir and green cognac suggest a subtle sexiness…the mystery and possibility of being a Clairvoyant woman.

Top Notes: Bergamot and Lime
Middle Notes: Rose, Jasmine, and Ylang Ylang
Base Notes: Tobacco Absolue, Fir Absolue, and Green Cognac

It's really quite lovely!  Perhaps a gift idea for a Valentine?  I love that this fragrance is designed for layering.  You can apply a little, and keep adding more to get the level of scent that your mood calls for, or you can even apply a little and then wear another of your favorite fragrances with this, to create your own signature scent.  I have a few Demeter Fragrance and Auric Blends perfume oil roll ons that I've used with this and it's fun to see what I can come up with.

If there's something at Clairvoyant Beauty that you'd like to try, or perhaps you'd like to make a gift of their delicious fragrance, we're excited to be able to offer you a code for 20% off here at Flip Flop Reviews!  Very excited, 20% is fantastic!  Just use code FLIP20420 at checkout.  This is only valid for the next 20 days (from today, though Monday, February 6th, 2012) , so hurry and get those orders in!

Cuddle Barn Storytime Teddy Review & Giveaway!

Hi, everyone!  I hope you're all having a wonderful December.  I'm sorry I have been so scarce lately, we've had a lot going on these past few weeks/months.  Health issues for one thing.  I don't really want to go in to everything on that end right now, but I've been needing to rest a lot and not spend so much time on the computer.  The other big thing that's been keeping me so busy, is that we finally bought our (hopefully!) forever home!  I absolutely love it an I'll be sure to share some pictures as I finish unpacking and work on decorating. We have over 1,000 more square feet than we had in our previous home and it's marvelous.  I'm trying to work through my health issues and get as much as I can done before Christmas so we can host our family Christmas dinner.

So, speaking of the holidays and decorating for Christmas, I wanted to share with you an absolutely adorable product I recieved a few weeks ago from Cuddle Barn and Mom Select.  Cuddle Barn makes so many wonderful children's toys, and I was super excited for the opportunity because I just knew my girls would love it.  I was sent the Storytime Teddie, which retails for $29.99.  Teddie is such a special treat for children of all ages.  This 12" tall bear is soft and cuddly, and can be used for play or for Christmas decor.  I had Teddie in our entry way on a table, but my children enjoy him so much that I keep finding him all over the house.  I don't mind at all, he's very sturdy.  What makes Teddie so special, aside from the fantastic quality and soft cuddly appearance, is that when you press his paw, he recites The Night Before Christmas.  His head and body moves, and his mouth opens and closes as he reads the story, and it's just so magical for young children to be able to listen to this classic Christmas poem read by Storytime Teddie.

See, how cute is this bear?!  Not at ALL too loud or annyoing like some of these type of toys/decorations can be.  We have had several that we've had to hide because they're just insanely loud (and the grandparents who bought them for our children were snickering as they gave them to us, I'm SURE!  haha!).  You won't have that problem with this bear, he's loud enough to be heard, but reads in a soft and soothing tone, and is accompanied by light music.

If you'd like to purchase one for yourself, be sure to use code BSM2011 to save 15% off your order at the Cuddle Barn Online Store!  Plus, keep reading for a giveaway!

Storytime Teddie takes just three AA batteries, which were already included in our bear.  You will need a screwdriver to replace the batteries, but I will say that as much as my children have carried Teddie around and listened to him retell The Night Before Christmas, we've not yet had to even think about replacing the batteries.  Teddie wears a super soft, neutral colored hoodie so he's perfect for everyone.  I love that my children listen to this bear read the poem so often, because I remember having to memorize this poem in school when I was in the fouth grade, so I feel like it's giving them a little head start in memorizing it themselves should that be something that's required of them in school, and in my opinion it's just a really great story to know anyway.  Last year I tracked down my favorite (out of print) copy of The Night Before Christmas, because I wanted to be sure to create the tradition of reading it on Christmas Eve every year.  My girls will take out the book and look at the pictures and read along with Teddie.  It's absolutely adorable.  I do have some video to share with you all, and I will update this to include it as soon as possible.  With the move, my camera cord seems to have decided to take a vacation.  Hopefully he returns soon, haha.  I think this bear would make an awesome gift for any child this Christmas.

One lucky reader, will win a Storytime Teddie by Cuddle Barn!  Woohoo!

US only.

Man Shoes

Yesterday morning, after taking my daughter to school I arrived home to a package on my doorstep.  Inside this package was a book.  A beautiful, hard cover, signed copy of Man Shoes, The Journey to Becoming a Better Man, Husband, and Father, by Tom Watson.

Now admittedly, my first thought was that I wasn't sure just how relevant this book would be to me.  Sure, I'm a wife, and a daughter, but wouldn't this be so geared towards men that it wouldn't apply to me?  I was worried it would read as your average self-help book and speak more of business and sports than little old stay at home mom, me, might care to read.  Cautiously, I opened the book and read the Foreword, which is written by Pat Williams, Senior Vice-President of The Orlando Magic.  Seeing that, I thought for sure that despite the practical advice I'd heard this book contained, that this book would not be for me.  Sports?  Me?  Oh, no, no, no.  I figured I would just read those first few pages, and go on with my daily chores around the house, before reading a few chapters here and there over the next week or so, so that I might give my opinions on the book.

Let me tell you though, that from the first paragraph of the Foreword, I was hooked.  I simply could not put this book down.  Housework would be there later, I had to devour this book from cover to cover.  And so I did, I sat on the couch with my three year old snuggled up against me, and I read for two hours.  Only stopping every now and then to playfully kiss my daughter's little nose or tickle her belly.

The first page of the Prologue written by Tom Watson, had me smiling.  The next few pages, had me laughing and nodding with understanding, as he explained how and why each chapter of this book, and each chapter of his life have been influenced somehow by his love of music.  Each chapter begins with a lyric that sets the tone for the life lessons, experience, and pearls of wisdom that Mr. Watson bestows upon the reader.

Each chapter of the book shares a chapter of Mr. Watson's life, a glimpse into his past and what made him the man he is today.  He uses these stories of his past, to explain how he gained the knowledge that he shares, and why he feels things like making family a priority, creating and continuing traditions, and taking responsibility seriously are so important.  These things are already important to me and it was refreshing to read a man talking so fondly of his family and everything that was so important to him.  Things that much more often, I only hear from other women.  It was nice to read a man's perspective and it gave me some valuable insight as a wife and daughter.

Now, I do want to point out that faith and God are important to the author, and there are religious tones in the book. However, they are not overpowering.  I found this book easy to breeze through because the author's writing style is just like he's talking to you over a cup of coffee. Warm, bright, and friendly.

This book made me laugh, smile so big that my cheeks hurt, and on many occasions moved me to tears.  A simple tear escaping here and there, and full on sobbing that I had to try to hide from my sweet baby who might think something was truly wrong if she saw.  This is a very emotional read, and I recommend keeping tissues nearby.  This man has been through so much in his life.  Things that no one should ever have to go through, and things that happen every day--but tear our hearts into pieces...and despite everything that could have sent him spiraling into the darkness, he has chosen to see light.  To see love.  To see that he has value and can make a difference in the lives of those around him, simply by choosing to.  The power of choice.  That is an important lesson for everyone to learn, not just men.  Everyone.  We all have a choice.  We might not be able to control everything that is thrown at us in our lives, but we can choose how to react.  We can choose to learn, to grow, to empower ourselves, and uplift those around us.

I want to thank Tom Watson for having the courage to wear his Man Shoes, and to share his journey in life with me through his book.  This was an incredible book to read, and I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to read it.  I cannot recommend this book enough.

Right now, if you like the Man Shoes page on Facebook, you can receive a chapter of this amazing read sent to your email (but be warned, you will probably need tissues, and then you will *need* to read the rest of this book!).  Also, if you check the Facebook page, you will find a Sweepstakes with the chance to win a Kindle, that comes with a digital copy of Man Shoes, ready for you to read and enjoy, so be sure to enter!

So now that hopefully your interest in this book is piqued, how would you like the chance to win a copy for yourself?

One lucky reader, will win a copy of Man Shoes, The Journey to Becoming a Better Man, Husband, and Father, by Tom Watson.

Carmex Review and Giveaway!

I have been a fan of Carmex for as long as I can remember.  I always have a little pot, and when my lips are chapped that yellow lid is a comforting sight.  I have been using Carmex since I was a little girl.  I was beyond excited when Carmex chose Flip Flop Reviews for the Carmex Blog Squad.  I love helping to represent this great brand.  I proudly display my Blog Squad icon over in my sidebar.

You can imagine my excitement as a chapstick lover, when Carmex expanded their line of products to introduce two new flavors available in Click Sticks.  Vanilla, and Lime Twist.  These new flavors of lip balm smell are awesome.  I don't really think they taste very well, but they smell great and they feel even better.  They still have that familiar Carmex tingle that I have grown to love over the years!  Carmex heals, soothes, and protects.  These premium lip balms have three additional moisturizers that are not found in their original line.  They are ultra moisturizing and have SPF 15, because your lips need to be protected from the harsh rays of the sun too.

These products are available at Walgreens, Walmart, and CVS.

Carmex was kind enough to send me a great gift pack recently, that included these two great new lip balm flavors, as well as a stick of Carmex Moisture Plus in clear satin gloss finish (which I *love*!!  It's the perfect amount of moisture and shine.  It goes great under or over lipstick, or all by itself.  I love it so much I want to marry it, or at least buy the other colors, hehe.), AND an awesome picnic blanket!  This blanket has a waterproof lining on the bottom, and rolls up neatly and velcros to keep it that way.  There is also a handy - dandy pocket for you to keep your Carmex in too!

AND, because Carmex is awesome, they want to give you one too!  Enter for your chance to win!!

I recently recieved a stick of Certain Dri Anti-Perspirant for review.  We have had quite a hot summer, and a good anti-perspirant is a MUST.  Certain Dri is the number one over the counter anti-perspirant recommended by doctors for treating excessive perspiration.  And with the temperatures we've had this summer, who couldn't benefit from dealing with just a little less perspiration?  They currently have the strongest formula available without a prescription, with 12% aluminum chloride in the roll-on, and 25% aluminum sesquichlorohydrate in the new solid.  The Certain Dri solid is currently the only over the counter anti-perspirant with this ingredient.  All I can say is, that it really does the trick!

For the solid that I recieved, it is best for you to apply (lightly) at bedtime to give it time to work overnight.  It doesn't wash off, even if you shower in the morning.  Some users have even remarked that it becomes uneccessary to use daily because it works so well.  Each application of Certain Dri provides 72 hours of protection.  I use it daily out of habit.  If you're used to applying deodorant as part of your morning routine, the A.M. Underarm Refresher can take care of that need, or feel free to apply another deodorant of choice.  The solid is unscented, and I personally like a scented deodorant/anti-perspirant so for me, that is a good option.

The complete line of Certain Dri underarm products currently includes an Anti-Perspirant Roll-On, a Solid Anti-Perspirant, and an A.M. Underarm Refresher.

The price is right too!  Certain Dri is usually between $5 and $6, which is less than other clinical strength anit-perspirants currently on the market.
