The Resilient Woman: Challenging Those Girly Thoughts and Accessing Your Personal Power

Albany, NY, March 2, 2013 - Dr. Patricia O’Gorman’s latest book, The Resilient Woman: Mastering the 7 Steps to Personal Power (HCI Books), is a vital guidebook for today’s women. Women seem wired to have to make others happy and if they don’t live up to these self-imposed expectations, they blame themselves for the hardships that befall them.Competing voices vie for women’s attention: societal messages that tell them they aren’t smart enough, pretty enough, good enough—self-sabotaging girly thoughts that tell them who they are and how they should act—and the voice of their inner strength, which helps them forge their own best solutions for their best courses of action.

In The Resilient Woman: Mastering the 7 Steps to Personal Power, Dr. O’Gorman offers a thoughtful analysis of the causes of girly thoughts as well as in-depth self-evaluation assessments any woman can use to identify her personal strengths, weaknesses, and resilience style. She created seven daily steps that offer concrete strategies for women to create and strengthen their own resilience. The book is a ‘must-read’ tool for self-growth for women of any age.

In The Resilient Woman, readers discover:

• resilience patterns established in childhood
• how girly thoughts become so powerful and how to neutralize them
• relationship issues that are specific to women
• how to overcome physical/ psychological/emotional trauma
• how to self-motivate by losing the victim mentality
• methods for tuning in to the inner self and consciously align with personal strengths to expand their personal power
• what resiliency is and is not and how to achieve it
• personal resilience patterns

“Women often miss the path toward achieving their true potential because they have been conditioned to blame themselves for something someone else has done to them,” says Dr. O’Gorman. “But with the right tools to break the cycle, they will learn to consciously harness and nurture their strengths and find the personal assets we often take for granted, realizing that a resilient life is generated not from the things that happened to us, but from our reaction to them.”

Patricia O’Gorman, PhD is an internationally recognized psychologist, coach, and public speaker for her work on women, trauma, and substance abuse. She was one of the first researchers in children of alcoholics in the early 1970s, documenting the impact of alcoholism and sobriety on adolescent development, and went on to create the Department of Prevention and Education for the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD).She is also a cofounder of the National Association for Children of Alcoholics and has run a rape-crisis center.

Disney Junior Summer Programming

Disney Junior has added a new interactive feature to its kid and parent-focused programming with the multi-platform "Yo Ho, Let's Go Summer!" event anchored by TV's #1 series for Boys 2-5 and one of the top co-viewed shows with preschoolers and moms, "Jake and the Never Land Pirates." The "Yo Ho, Let's Go Summer!" programming event will take place across all Disney Junior digital platforms including Disney Junior On Demand, Mobile and iTunes.

Now, through Friday, August 26, Jake and his pirate crew's gold doubloons will appear throughout the Disney Junior programming block on Disney Channel. Kids and their parents are invited to go online at www.DisneyJunior.com/Summer, enter the number of gold doubloons they have seen throughout the week, and unlock weekly treasures including new episode previews, games and activities. Every Friday, beginning FRIDAY, JUNE 17 (9:00 a.m., ET/PT), Disney Junior will premiere a new episode of a favorite Disney Junior series on-air and online.

Parents can also download gold doubloons for their kids to decorate, then photograph their child with their doubloons and upload their photos to the site. Viewer images may be used on-air during the Disney Junior programming block.

Among the new episodes premiering every Friday, are Tori Spelling guest starring as the Pirate Princess on "Jake and the Never Land Pirates," Friday, June 17; Martian Mickey drops by the Clubhouse on "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," Friday, June 24; environmental and healthy eating-themed episodes of "Handy Manny," Friday, July 8 and Friday, August 5, respectively; and a new episode of "Jake and the Never Land Pirates," which includes Jake and his crew discovering a mystery stone door that leads to a secret treasure, Friday, August 26.

The new Disney Junior programming block on Disney Channel reflects the emotional connection generations of consumers have to Disney storytelling and Disney characters, both classic and contemporary. It invites mom and dad to join their child in the Disney experience of magical, musical and heartfelt stories and characters, while incorporating specific learning and development themes designed for kids age 2-7. Disney Junior's animated and live action series blend Disney's unparalleled storytelling and characters kids love deeply with learning, including early math, language skills, healthy eating and lifestyles, and social skills. Disney Junior is available on basic cable in more than 99 million U.S. homes (via a daily block on Disney Channel) and to millions of other viewers on 25 Disney Junior channels (fka Playhouse Disney channels) and free-to-air broadcast partners around the world. It is also seen via subscription video-on-demand and a broadband website, DisneyJunior.com. In 2012 Disney Junior will add a basic cable and satellite channel in the U.S.

Also, since the launch of Disney Junior, Disney has been getting lots of feedback from moms asking about where they can find some of their kids favorite "old school" Playhouse Disney series.  Well, ask and you shall receive!  With the launch of the new 24-hour Disney Junior channel coming next year, many of your child's older favorites will be included, so Disney wants to give you a little preview of what's to come!

Every day throughout the week of June 20th, DisneyJunior.com will post fan favorite episodes of original Playhouse Disney hits including "Jo Jo's Circus," "Higglytown Heroes" and "Rolie Polie Olie."  Visit www.DisneyJunior.com/FanFavorites to watch!

I only wish they would include some favorites from when I was a little girl...Under the Umbrella Tree, and Dumbo's Circus, anyone?  What is *your* favorite Disney Channel show?  From your own childhood, and/or now?
